It is passed through more than it is visited, and it holds two of the most photographed places in Japan.
At Motonosumi Inari, 123 vermilion gates run down a headland to a cliff above the sea. At Kintaikyo, a wooden bridge of five arches crosses a wide river on stone piers, built without nails. Neither is near the other; both are worth the drive.
