Which sources we use, the licence each one carries, and what gets recorded for every image before it goes up.
We use only sources whose licence allows commercial use. This site is free to read but carries advertising, which means our use counts as commercial — so we use only material licensed for commercial use.

At the foot of every page that uses photographs:

Photographs are resized to fit the page. Nothing else is altered — we do not add text, remove objects or change colours.
Every place on this site was given a frame naming the photograph it needed, and each frame was then filled by hand or deliberately left out. Where you see no photograph, it is because we could not find one we were sure of — not because nobody has looked.
We would rather show nothing than a photograph of the wrong place. Photographs of a different town, a shop sign, a product wrapper, a car park, or anything where a child’s face can be recognised, are not used.
If you believe an image on this site is yours and is used without a licence that permits it, tell us and we will take it down while we check — not after we finish checking.
Every page carries its own credits at the foot, naming the photographer and the licence for each photograph on that page. That is the list — kept beside the photograph rather than in one long table far away from it.
