Privacy

Most privacy pages start with what a site takes. This one starts with what we decided not to take.

The principleWhat we do not collect cannot leak

There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no password, no name and no address anywhere in our records. The list below is what we hold instead, and it is short.

We do not collect

No account
There is nothing to sign up for, so there is no password to lose
No name
We never ask for it
No email
Not needed to read anything here
No phone number
Never
No payment details
We sell nothing, so we never see a card
No location tracking
We do not ask your device where you are
No profile of you
We do not build one, and we do not buy one

What does happen

Server records
Like any website, the server records requests — the page, the time, the browser type, and an IP address. Used to keep the site working and to see which pages are read
Advertising
This site sells advertising space, and that is how it is paid for. Advertising may use cookies to decide what to show you. The provider and what it collects will be named here before any advertisement appears, not afterwards
What we never do with it
We do not give advertisers your data, because we do not have any. Behavioural advertising is switched off on the pages about travelling with children, and we never ask a reader their age
Cookies
Only what is needed for the site to work, plus advertising if present
Refusing it
You may refuse non-essential cookies and the site will still work. Some advertising will then be untargeted rather than absent
Language choice
Stored in your own browser, not on our server

PhotographsIf we ever accept them from visitors

Exif
Location data in a photograph is deleted the moment the file reaches us, before it is stored or looked at. A photograph must not be able to say where somebody was.
What is kept
The image, the prefecture, and one line of text. Nothing that identifies who sent it, because we never asked.
Children
Photographs in which a child can be recognised are not published, in any circumstances. See section 3.3 of the terms.
Removal
Ask, and it goes. We do not require you to prove who you are, because we never knew.

Children’s privacy

This site is written for travellers and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child, and we never ask for age, school or town.

If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it without asking questions first.

How long, and who else

Server records
Kept only as long as needed to run the site
Sharing
We do not sell data, and we do not share it except where the law requires it
Changes
Material changes will be shown on this page, not buried
