Everything is close, and two of the things it is known for are unusually specific: udon and art.
The noodles here are thick, square-edged and chewy. They are the local staple rather than a speciality — there are hundreds of shops, some of them self-service sheds where you boil your own and pay by the bowl.
Getting in: Takamatsu Airport · Takamatsu Station — no shinkansen; about 1 hour by train from Okayama

The best season. Cherry blossom in Ritsurin, calm seas for the island ferries.
