Take the first ferry to Miyajima and come back for the afternoon. Two World Heritage sites, forty minutes apart.

A shrine built out over the water, with a vermilion gate standing offshore. At high tide the gate is in the sea; at low tide you can walk out to it.

You can walk out and stand under it. A different visit entirely.
A ropeway most of the way, then twenty minutes on foot. The whole inland sea.
Both tides are worth seeing and they are not the same place. Tide times are published for each day — look them up the night before.
A park of trees and water in the middle of the city, with a museum at one end and a brick dome at the other. Allow two hours, and walk it slowly.
Trams run from Hiroshima Station to the park in about fifteen minutes. The park is beside the river, so the walk in is along the water.
Layered, not mixed — batter, cabbage, noodles and egg, built up on the plate. The city has hundreds of places that make it, and most seat eight.
Ask for soba or udon for the noodle layer.
