What Chiba is

Naritasan Shinshoji is a large working temple about ten minutes from the airport by train, with a street of eel restaurants and pickle shops leading up to it. If you have a long layover, or you land tired and cannot check in yet, this is the best two hours available to you in Japan — and there are luggage lockers at the station.

March – May

Warm early. The temple grounds are at their best, and flowers are grown all along the southern coast.

June – August

Humid. The southern beaches are the closest surf to Tokyo, and busy in August.

September – November

Clear and mild.

December – February

Mild for the region, and the sunrise at Choshi on New Year’s morning is a local tradition.
